I spent several days kayaking on a section of the East French River area. What makes this area interesting is all the rapids, most of which have to be portaged around. The weather was good, with only one bit of rain - but a beautiful rainbow as a result.

These are the Recolett Falls, so named after the members of that religious order who drowned trying to navigate the falls in the late 1600's. In those days, all the early explorers used the French River to get to the interior of Canada. The water level was a lot higher then so the falls must have been even more treacherous.

This bird was obviously not afraid of the falls.

The end of the rainbow was almost at my campsite. I looked around but couldn't find the gold anywhere.

Although most of the shoreline is very rocky, every so often a beach appears out of nowhere. hiked up to the top of the rock, and got a wonderful view of the river and the surrounding area.

This is Cross Island, the burial site of many Jesuit Priests who drowned coming down the rapids. After negotiating some of the rapids, I have new respect for fast flowing water.

You have transported me back into my canoeing days...of discovery, of awe, of wonderment at the very beauty of it all, of silence and respect. I wondered where you had gone...now I know....
