Arches National Park

This shot of Wall Arch was taken several years ago during one of my previous trips. Access to it was roped off because it was in danger of falling. I ignored the warning and crept behind the rope to get a close shot. On August 5, 2008 the arch collapsed during the night. Erosion and gravity reign supreme over sandstone. This arch would have been standing when the Egyptian Pyramids were being built. Or while the Roman Empire was flourishing, and when the American Declaration of Independence was signed. The arch below, taken yesterday, does not appear to be in imminent danger of collapsing!
